About New Dawn Rose

Rosa 'New Dawn' is a fast-growing climber in the Rosaceae family. It reaches around 4 m tall and 2.5 m wide at maturity, with deciduous foliage. Pink flowers appear for much of the year.

Where to grow New Dawn Rose

New Dawn Rose suits warm-temperate, cool-temperate and Mediterranean climates and grows best in full sun and part shade or morning sun. It is frost hardy and shrugs off cold winters. It also is an award-winning selection.

Soil & planting

New Dawn Rose does best in free-draining and loamy soil. Dig in plenty of compost before planting, water in well, and mulch to keep roots cool.

Watering & feeding

New Dawn Rose is regular, moderate watering. A feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser keeps growth strong. In its first year, water deeply once or twice a week to settle the roots in, then taper off as it establishes.

Pruning & care

Prune New Dawn Rose after flowering to keep it compact and encourage the next flush of blooms. Overall it is low maintenance.

Using New Dawn Rose in the garden

New Dawn Rose earns its place for a feature or specimen planting, its fragrance and cut flowers for the vase.

Companion planting & design

For a cohesive, low-care bed, pair New Dawn Rose with other plants that enjoy the same regular, moderate watering and warm-temperate climate. Group three or five together for impact rather than dotting single plants through the garden.

Good to know

It is thorny — useful as a barrier, but wear gloves when pruning.
